RE: Lee's written comments at the Advanced Training Celebration Dinner 05.24.07

Ron Browning! My oh my, what a challenge. A reformed Baptist, community Baptist, same sex delivered, closed head injured, discipler, married to and out of sorts with a charismatic wife, a musician, preacher, ex con, a weak, but powerful passionate brother of the Lord Jesus; a friend of John Woodward, Charles R. Solomon and myself. How much more mixed up can you get?

Ron was always eager to learn. We talked the Scriptures together. He accepted teaching on authority and submission, on law and grace, and forsook all teaching that did not agree with his new found positions. He was a delight to teach and he massaged my understandings of the Scriptures for all I was worth. He struggled just to get to the Thursday night meetings, was determined to hear them ELM style as he already knew what John Woodward taught him. Ron asked for help in addressing his family, and he depended on Christ for developing language that same sex men could understand as he pleaded with them to take the way out of their bondage. I admire Ron's courage. He is not afraid of the community in which he lives, he is not afraid of asking believer's for help, he is not afraid of suffering for Christ's sake. He allows his injuries to work for good, doesn't complain, and always finds a new way out of his maze of difficulties. His computer is his ministry tool! Go for it Ron, Satan can't hold you down son!

God has peculiarly gifted Ron Browning, executive director of New Heart Expressions, to communicate the scriptural message of liberation from enslavement to sins of the flesh--pornography, homosexuality and other gender related issues. While there are many approaches to dealing with these concerns, inside and outside the church, they have in common that the emphasis is upon the thoughts, feelings and behaviors rather than the confused identity from which they emanate.

God called me in 1967 to develop an approach to discipleship counseling where the Cross is central to the goal and methodology and which is centered in Romans 6 and Galatians 2:20. During this time, we have seen those set free from porn, homosexuality, pedophilia and other sexual deviations. Ron's background equips him to identify with those so involved and proceed to show them that the root problem is an issue of identity; through the Cross, they can appropriate an identity of eternal significance which can set them free from temporal enslavement.

He uses the books which I have written (Handbook to Happiness and others), which describe the way to freedom from most of the symptoms regularly identified as the problem for which people presently find their way to mental health professionals. When a believer exchanges his fleshly identity for his true identity in the Lord Jesus Christ, it results in transformational change whether in a crisis or on a more gradual basis.

I commend Ron and his seminars to those with such enslavement or those who aspire to give God's answer of freedom in Christ to those who are shackled to a fleshly identity--sexual or otherwise.

My mentoring relationship with Ron Browning began about three years ago when he and his wife completed the Grace Fellowship International training week in Tennessee. I have appreciated their heart for worship, their integrity in spiritual growth, and their vision for ministry.

It has been a joy to have a part in seeing New Heart Expressions founded. Many have been helped through Ron's e-counseling as a mentor with Setting Captives Free. As a co-leader of the Power of Purity Conferences with Ron, I have witnessed the chains fall off attendees who leave their gender-confused self-life at the Cross and emerge with a joyous awareness of their new identity in Christ. Ron has been innovative in utilizing insights which we have been discovering in clinical discipleship in recent years.

Although his honesty about his pre Christ-as-Lord past has brought rejection, misunderstanding, and even persecution from some in the church, those who are desperate for radical life change through God have found hope and reality in Ron's testimony.

"For such a time as this" New Heart Expressions is positioned to communicate the fullness of Christ's grace and liberating truth to those who are sick and tired of rationalizing and excusing an immoral lifestyle. As others are led to partner with this ministry, many more will experience spiritual and behavioral liberation through Christ, Who proclaimed: "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free ... Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:32,36).
